The Death and Resurrection of Jesus
(Koran 19: 33-34)

In the Koran we read: "They (Jews) said, 'We killed the Messiah Isa the Son of Mary, the Apostle of Allah' - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them." (Koran 4:157).

I wish to interpret the above verse as it is: "They (Jews) said, we killed the Messiah Isa.......". As in the physical sense, I'd say Jews neither killed nor crucified Jesus, but Roman Soldiers crucified and killed him. In other way, each and every human beings (children of Adam) crucified and killed the Son of God as the result of the sin of one and all. That's why Caiaphas gave cousel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people (John 18:14). But as in spiritual sense we're all convinced that nobody killed Jesus, but gave His life by Himself as a ransom for MANY (Matthew 20:28; Mk 10:45). He gave himself as a ransom for ALL (1 Timothy 2:6).

"........it was made to appear to them" (Koran 4:157). Yes! When Jesus was crucified, all the people who gathered there to see the crucifixion might have felt (or to say they have had an intuition) that they themselves are crucifying because of their own sins. It was made to appear to them". Bible says, "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him" (1 Corinthians 5:21).

The Koran 19:33-34 says about the death and the resurrection of Jesus, "Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! Such was Jesus, son of Mary: a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt" . As per the Qur'anic version, Jesus said this when he was doing public ministry in Palastine. Without any doubt he cleared about his death and resurrection.

St. Paul says in the Bible, "Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yes, and we are foundfalse witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ; whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. (1 Corinthians 15:12-17).
